Independent Shooting Participant Abdulrahman Al Faihan claimed the Gold medal in the Trap Men event at the Asia Olympic Qualifying Competition for Shooting in New Delhi (IND).
Al Faihan earned himself a spot in the Gold medal match after a four-way shoot-off was required at the end of the semifinals. The ISP, in fact, finished with 12 hits just like Chinese Taipei’s Yang Kun-Pi, India’s Kynan Chenai and like another Independent Shooting Participant, Talal Alrashidi.
Both Alrashidi and Chenai missed their third tie-breaker target, going to the Bronze medal match and allowing Al Faihan and Yang to shoot for the 1st place. In the Gold medal match, Abdulrahman Al Faihan almost nailed the perfect round, shuttering 14-out-of-15 targets, besting Yang 13 hits and grabbing the Gold medal.
In the previous Bronze medal match Talal Alrashidi prevailed over Kynan Chenai, who was competing on his home turf, with the final score of 14 hits to 13.
The four Olympic quotas available were automatically distributed after the semifinal round, and they went to Kazakhstan’s Andrey Mogilevskiy, 5th with 11 semifinal hits, to India’s Chenai, Chinese Taipei’s Yang and to the Gold medallist Al Faihan.
6th with 11 semifinal targets concluded another Kazakh shooter, Maxim Kolomoyets.
The competition will continue tomorrow with the 50m Pistol Men final scheduled at 1:00 PM (UTC+5:30), followed by the 10m Air Rifle Women final at 4:00 PM.
