China victorious in mixed trap final in ISSF World Cup closer in Nicosia

The ISSF World Cup in Nicosia, Cyprus, concluded with a gold medal for China in the mixed team trap gold medal match, courtesy of Qi Ying and Zhang Zixi.

Qi, the Olympic silver medallist in men's trap, teamed with Zhang after missing out on the final of the men's trap. The pair qualified second behind Poland's Tomasz Pasierbski and Sandra Bernal, making the gold medal match after winning a shoot-off against Tolga N Tuncer and Rumeysa Pelin Kaya of Turkey.

In the early stages of the final, the teams were tied, before a perfect round from Pasierbski gave Poland a one-shot lead. However, the response from China is what changed the contest, with Zhang being the difference-maker. In three of the five rounds she shot perfectly, including in the final round which sealed the win for China. By contrast, Bernal had a couple of difficult moment including three misses in the final round which denied Poland a comeback. China would stand top of the podium with the score finishing 42-39.

Kynan Chenai helped India to a win in Nicosia
India's Kynan Chenai and Sabeera Haris met Tolga N Tuncer and Rumeysa Pelin Kaya of Turkey in the battle for bronze. The Indians qualified by virtue of winning a shoot-off against Yang Kun-Pi and Liu Wan-Yu of Chinese Taipei.

It was a difficult start for India, with Haris missing four of her opening shots, meaning they trailed by two. However, Chenai would be key to his country's eventual win, missing just two of his 25 shots. Round two saw India bring the gap down to one and after tying in round three, India would take the lead before the final shots.

Chenai scored the second of his three perfect rounds to help his team score eight, while Tuncer and Kaya could only score six. Both teams scored six in the final round, ensuring India defeated Turkey 34-33.
