Lima ISSF World Cup officially opens in Peru

The second leg of the ISSF World Cup has officially opened in Lima, Peru, following today's Opening Ceremony.

Held at Las Palmas Shooting Range, it was attended by athletes and dignitaries including International Shooting Sport Federation President Luciano Rossi, Peruvian National Shooting Sport Federation President Juan Carlos Huerta and Federico Tong Hurtado, President of the Peruvian Sports Institute. 

Competition begins tomorrow on the 15th of March, finishing on the 21st. 

At the Opening Ceremony, traditional dancing and music took place before speeches from Mr Rossi and Mr Huerta. 

In his speech, Mr Huerta said: 

"It's an honour and a privilege for me to extend the warmest welcome to this distinguished international sporting event, where 43 sister nations gather in Peru, represented by 392 athletes and 217 officials, with the common goal of celebrating and honouring the sport of shooting with excellence, respect and a spirit of competition.

"This World Cup not only represents the highest level of technical performance in our discipline, but also a space for cultural exchange, integration among nations, and the strengthening of bonds of friendship through sport.

"Today, Lima is not just the host of a World Cup: it is the home of a global community that believes in personal growth, discipline and mutual respect. We are deeply honoured to welcome you to our country, confident that your stay will be marked by the warmth of our people, the richness of our history, and the hospitality that defines Peru."
